Hey y'all, "The trees are coming into leaf / like something almost being said..." Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week: - The best distance learning is reading a book. This week I read Sarah Bird's A Love Letter To Texas Women, Lori Pickert's Project-Based Homeschooling, and Mary Ruefle's poetry collection Dunce. (Watch her geek out on the joy of blackout poetry.)
- A big list of my favorite instructional books, how-to videos, and art supplies for drawing with kids.
- I had a nice chat with Joanna Penn about how to Keep Going in challenging times. The things that have helped me the most lately? Not checking my phone for the first few hours of the day and not thinking too much about life after dinnertime. (And lowering my expectations.)
- Newsletter I'm enjoying: Laura Olin's lists of ten. (Her latest issue was really nice.)
- I love the idea of a bird feeder for humans.
- Ear candy: A six-year-old girl plays guitar and sings "I Wish You Love."
- Eye candy: If you're bored, try watching one of your favorite movies in black and white.
- Marvelous and melancholy things The Oatmeal has learned about creativity.
- RIP Kenny Rogers. Loved this interview, which was full of wisdom. (My parents went to one of his concerts on their first date, and though I wasn't conceived that night, I like to think that in some small way he contributed to my existence!)
- Want to hang out? Join me online for Quarantine Book Club (as featured in Time magazine!) next week, Tuesday, March 31, at 4PM central. Tickets here.
Thanks for reading. This newsletter is free, but not cheap. If you want to support it, forward it to someone who'd like it or buy some of my books. If you're seeing this newsletter for the first time, you can subscribe here. xoxo, Austin PS.
