How the Inner Child Impacts Your Love and Addiction

Hey L,

A good friend of mine and brilliant therapist once said to me this...

Recovery is about growing up.

Ouch!

But that statement is not meant to be condemning. Because truthfully there is a ton of context behind those words, and ultimately it's very true.

Recovery is not about...

  • Sobriety
  • Willpower
  • Modifying behavior.
  • Strength of character
  • Spiritual growth

Certainly, the recovery process includes some of those elements; however, ultimately, recovery signifies acquiring the ability to meaningfully interact with the world in a thoughtful and balanced way, both mentally and emotionally.

This is what growing up essentially means.

But in order to do that, we need to recognize the inner child in all of us and his or her role in our poor choices.

In this week's post Eddie Capparucci breaks this idea down a bit further, so I would definitely encourage you to check it out and let us know what you think in the comments.
