Hey L,
Have you ever turned on the TV or scrolled through social media only to get bombarded with sexual imagery?
Maybe you've clicked an article talking about the housing market and in the suggested links below is some woman (or man) in a skimpy bathing suit with a click-bait headline begging for your attention?
Of course, you have.
We all have experienced this.
It's the byproduct of living in a hyper-sexualized culture. And it's pretty much unavoidable :(
So our choices are simple...
- Indulge the sensualization.
- Run from it and pretend like it's not there.
- Recognize its pervasiveness and talk about the unfortunate reality as we figure out healthy ways to coexist in such an environment.
Unfortunately for many of us we opt for choices #1 or #2, not so much #3.
Consequently, this month we are going to be focusing our attention on sexualization.
Because right or wrong, good or bad, we live in a culture that will continue to lean on sexualization as an effective way to market, sell, and get noticed.
And so, when we then shy away from talking about the adverse effects of such things, we commit egregious self-sabotage and set our fellow citizens up for moral failure and sexual compromise.
Check out this week's post where I break down the type of sexualized self-sabotage we commit on a regular basis within our families and churches, and how we need to respond so it doesn't continue.
