Hey L, let's be honest, the type of ministry we do is not traditional. It's not "sexy" (pun intended) and doesn't resonate with many people… even those in the church.
Maybe that's why it always feels like such a struggle to raise funds this time of year.
And when it comes to helping individuals dealing with sex and porn addiction, the idea of "saving lives" may not be the first thing that comes to mind.
After all, it's not like we are feeding starving children, digging wells, or clothing the homeless. Aren't we just helping people curb problematic behaviors? Behaviors they should be able to correct themselves?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
The other day, I received a DM from a man in our Live Free Community. His message was short. It simply said…
"I hope you and your wife know you are saving lives."
I'll be honest, what he wrote floored me. It reminded me of the importance of the work we do for the many people and families we help each year.
Because "saving lives" means more than just mortality concerns.
You see, when this man said "You're saving lives," I interpreted that as an acknowledgment of how our communities and resources enable individuals to experience life in a transformative and fulfilling manner.
In other words, we are helping people rediscover their identity, purpose, and sense of joy. We are helping them finally live rather than just exist.
And while we have faced life-and-death situations like when someone reached out to us on the verge of suicide, our concern extends beyond mere survival. Because we believe that life is precious and meant to be enjoyed, not merely endured.
