A while ago we did a deep dive on the dating app industry.
Pretty relevant, considering the fact that online dating is a $3B industry and folks are officially more single than ever (single people have outnumbered married adults as of 2014).
So how are those single people going about becoming… less single?
Here's a nice graph:
That bright red line is comprised of enough companies to put the Love Shack at full capacity. We collected and analyzed data on over 50 dating apps for the full report, including:
- An app that uses location data to connect you with people you've crossed paths with (mildly creepy)
- An app that only allows good looking people (hurts my feelings, but okay)
- An app strictly for Kanye West enthusiasts (not kidding)
We found that dating apps "premium" models tend to charge their users for one of two benefits: access to more information or more opportunity.
The full report is packed with insights. We went as far as to outline 5 specific areas of opportunity to capitalize on if you wanted to start your own dating app.
