Hey L,
Last week we introduced the idea that recovery isn’t just about not acting out. It’s about becoming a whole, healthy person, one who’s regulated enough that compulsive behavior loses its grip.
This involves multiple domains, including your body, your emotions, your relationships, and your spirit.
So this month we’re breaking down what that actually looks like, dimension by dimension.
First up: your body.
I get it, this might feel like an odd place to start. You came here for help with an unwanted sexual behavior problem, not a lecture on sleep and salad. But your body isn’t separate from your recovery.
In fact, it’s one of the biggest factors in whether you stay free or end up back in the cycle.
Because here’s something a lot of people miss: recovery isn’t just a mental battle you fight with your thoughts. It’s happening in your body just as much as your head.
Your nervous system is running in the background all day, every day, deciding whether you’re safe or under threat, whether you have enough in the tank or you’re running on empty.
So when your body is depleted, tired, poorly fed, sedentary, it has fewer resources to regulate anything.
Not your mood, not your stress response, and definitely not the urge to escape into old coping mechanisms when things get hard. That means this isn’t about becoming a fitness guy or overhauling your whole life overnight.
It’s about understanding that your physical state and your recovery are tied together whether you’ve noticed it or not.
So let’s start here because it’s the one most people ignore first and pay for hardest...
